"Minds Wide Open" DVD is available

"Minds Wide Open"

This is what producer Andre Paskowski says about the movie release:

"2 years of work are behind us and we are extremely proud on our results. We had the first 5 premiere shows around the world during the last 4 weeks and each of them has been great with superb feedbacks.

This is a special day. Minds Wide Open means not just a new DVD to me. It got produced in the most difficult time of my life and so a lot of the movie reminds me on difficult situations. I am very proud on our Team & Me that besides all the difficult times we still managed somehow to keep our head clean and pull this thing off. I was myself on our last Premiere in Jeri and people were blown away. This will give me  Power and Strength to fight on my fight. So Mission accomplished. Thanks to all for there support."

Strapper Surfboards Australia

Strapper Surf Boards

About Strapper Surf
Strapper Surf Shops are based out of Torquay on the Surf coast in Victoria, Australia with Bells Beach and Winkipop surf breaks just down the road. Strapper Surf shops are in Torquay as well as neighboring Ocean Grove and Geelong. The traditional image of a surfboard shaper with a surf shop out the front selling everything needed for surfers to go surfing is a well worn story that in fact is very rare and unique today. Strapper Surf started making Surfboards in the 60’s and still today has its surfboard factory at the back of the main Strapper Surf store in Torquay. We sell all major surf brands and products. In Torquay where Rip Curl, Quiksilver and Oakley Australia were started, in a town that is the centre of “Corporate Surf” Strapper are the only “Surf Shop” making boards out the back, selling all the brands and products a surfer needs. Strapper Surf is “The Surfers Shop”.

History
Strapper formally commenced business in 1976 but its roots are in the fledgling Torquay surf industry in the 1960’s. Dennis “Strapper” Day first started shaping with Fred Pyke in his Boston Road factory that later became Piping Hot. In the early 70’s Strapper moved to the “Klemme Bell” factory up the road in Torquay and managed the surfboard production, “Klemme Bell” at this time was the premiere surfboard factory in Victoria with a long list of in house shapers and visiting interstate and international shapers. Strapper soon had a strong following to his surfboards and in 1976 opened his own surf shop and shared a factory with legendary shaper Pat Morgan.
Strapper soon set up his own factory on Speakys farm in a shearing shed at the back of Bells beach overlooking the surf at Jan Juc. Michael DiSciascio started shaping with Strapper as a 15 year old in 1979. In the 80’s a new surf shop and surfboard factory was built on the main road in Torquay next to what was Rip Curl then was Quiksilvers factory. In 1989 Michael after being a junior partner bought Dennis out to own Strapper.
In the early 90’s and on the back of Torquays great surf and wind conditions Strapper Surf distributed wave sailboards to 23 countries around the world and helped launch the career of Jason Polakow, one of the world’s best ever wave sailor/waterman. Jason/Strapper with unique talent and marketing, strong logos and graphics had a major impact with the legacy still in the sport today.
Michael sold the international side of the business in the mid 90’s and he chose to focus on his passion for his Strapper Surf store in Torquay, shaping surfboards and going surfing. In Torquay Strapper now has three stores, Strapper Surf shop with the surfboard factory out the back, Blunt Skateboarding and Surf co, Strapper Factory Outlet as well as a Strapper Surf Shop in Geelong and Ocean Grove.
Michael and his team still make boards out the back of the shop in Torquay. Many of the team are top competitive surfers with a strong passion for surfing just like Michael who has won 8 State Kneeboard titles. This really sums up the true grass roots of Strapper and customers can trust Strapper as the place to get great advice on surf hardware, accessories and the very best selection of surf wear.

Strapper Communities
Strapper heavily supports Surf and Skate events, clubs and associations in the local community. The Strapper Surf Junior was Victoria’s longest running junior event going for 18 years. Simmer Windsurf boards 2012

Simmer, New Windsurfing Boards,

We've been working a while on the approaching 2012 Simmer board line. Last summer I teamed up with Kai [Katchadourian] and discussed some custom boards for him. I was still with Starboard then, but designing customs was "allowed" before any formal commitment to Simmer from my side. Anyway, we looked a bit at some recent Quad shapes of mine and discussed what he liked and didn't like about the Quatro boards he’d been using.

After we made massive progress together and came across some major discoveries, we decided to go official and offer these to Simmer customers. We developed three shapes. A ‘groundswell’ no-compromise pintail Quad board called the FlyWave, the Quantam Quad ‘windswell’, squashtail shape, and a Freestyle Wave (FSW) with multifin configuration for the wavier end of the Freewave spectrum.

Ola Helenius Bio

I'm 40 year old from Sweden and I've been windsurfing since the age of ten. Primarily, I'm into wave sailing, but I do some slalom and freeride sailing as well as a bit of GPS speed sailing for fun too. Understanding how a wave board works has been a quest of mine for many years. I designed my first boards in the early 90s - some short and stubby Thruster boards that wouldn't look too dated by today's standards. Since then I spent a lot of time riding as many boards as possible while analyzing the fine details of shapes to help me find connections on how shape relates to feel on water. I have a PhD in mathematics that gives me a logical understanding of the way curves and surfaces work.

I've developed my own computer software to help me "see" the shape of a board in a way that's helpful to me, and that's what I use when designing the boards. I'd venture to say that this way of working is more advanced then what other shapers use and it allows me to distinguish really subtle but important aspects of the curves that make up a board. This way of understanding the geometry of a board also opens up your senses when it comes to test riding. Before moving to Simmer, I worked with Starboard and shaped one of the Quad boards in their 2011 line-up and prototype/custom work for some of their international team riders.

Shark spotted near Rottnest scuba divers

A THREE-METRE shark has been spotted within 150m of scuba divers off Rottnest Island today.
A Water Police spokeswoman said the shark was first spotted 600m offshore from Bathurst Point shortly before 2.30pm.

It was then spotted within 150m of scuba divers about 15 minutes later. The divers were informed and got out of the water.

The sighting comes just three weeks after Texan George Wainwright, 32, was killed by a 3m white pointer while diving alone about 500m off Little Armstrong Bay on the island's north-west coast.

His death was the third fatal shark attack in WA waters in less than two months.

On October 10, Bryn Martin was believed to have been taken by a great white shark after he was last seen about 350m from the shore as headed out on his daily swim at Cottesloe.
n September 4, Kyle James Burden was killed while bodyboarding with friends at Bunker Bay, near Dunsborough.

In August last year, Nick Edwards died after a shark attacked him while he was surfing near Gracetown.

Summer 2011 L'Alemanarre

Last Summer L’Almanarre France,

After a car ride from 13 hours we arrived at L’Almanarre.

This windsurfspot close to the village of Hyeres consists of a number of surfspots located on the peninsula of Giens. Here the Mistral often blows, depending on the surfspot you're at, a bit onshore from the Northwest. The spot offers for almost every winddirections an alternative. Almanarre is the most famous and popular one of the all, L’Almanarre is also the place with the most waves. The Mistral can last for three, six or even nine days in a row. No wonder that 42,7 percent of all days were Mistral-days.

Another Aussie legend....

Having kicked off yesterday Down Under, today's lead movie stars another Aussie legend: Jason Polakow's a Maui local these days, and his latest podcast for Oxbow / JP / NeilPryde is a very different cut by Maui Nerd Productions on some stunning footage from across the Pacific. Across the disciplines too, with tow-in, stand-up and moto-x memories also encapsulated forExtraction...

Cheers....

JP Australia shows one of Kauli Seadi`s custom wave boards

We had twin fin windsurfing wave boards years ago, thrusters and also quads, each of which is making a resurgence in popularity.  Time to revisit 4 straps...

This JP Australia shows one of Kauli Seadi`s custom wave boards fitted with 2 rear straps...typical of those setups of yester-year!

2013????  Time will tell...
